BLOOD OF OUR REDEEMER

THE REDEEMING BLOOD

January 19, 2023

The book of Leviticus (17:11) tells us For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; since the blood itself makes atonement through the life that is in it. (forbade eating the blood).

AND ST PAUL in his letter to the Hebrews (9:22) said, There can be no forgiveness without the shedding of blood, since the law requires nearly everything to be cleansed by blood.” THEREFORE An act of atonement was needed to restore us to our origin which is the image and likeness of God. The doctrine of the Eucharist states.

And the Psalm (49:7) affirms that “No man can by any means redeem (compensate for the faults) his brother Or give to God a ransom (PAYOFF HIS DEBT ) for him.” BECAUSE WHATEVER YOU HAVE IS ALREADY BEEN GIVEN TO YOU BY GOD. YOU HAVE NOTHING OF YOUR OWN…

AND Isaiah (1:11) said, Hear the word of the Lord…“What makes you think I want all your sacrifices?” says the LORD. “I am sick of your burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened cattle. I get no pleasure from the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.

So God saw all their offerings were meaningless in His sight, why? Because they were disobedient they kept swerving  from God’s ways. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Rom 3:23).  Except one person who is Jesus Christ that St Paul said of Him:  “For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent (HAS NO GUILT OR OFFENCE, CRIME), undefiled (PURE), separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens.” (Heb 7:26),

The Catholic conception of Christ’s sufferings and atonement is that Christ offered Himself in a self-sacrificing love for the Father. As John the Baptist foreshadowed the eternal God-man the new Paschal lamb whome by shedding of his blood will bring salvation to all humanity by crying out in the gospel of John (1:29); “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” The blood of Jesus was sprinkled every time the whip dug into His holy body.

JUST as God commanded to Moses in  Exodus (29:15-16), “Then you shall take one of the rams, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on the head of the ram, and you shall kill the ram and shall take its blood and throw it against the sides of the altar.)

But why is God asking that? St. Paul gives us the ANSWER:  “With blood almost everything is cleansed according to the Law, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Hebrews 9:22.

And  St. John  (19:34) in his  gospel is the only one who is stating the scene of the piercing side so wonderfully conveying that. “… Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.” Therefore, the blood of Christ was the price paid for our salvation because the redemption of our souls is so costly.

John’s gospel is different from the other three in the New Testament. Whereas in the three synoptic gospels Jesus actually eats a passover meal before he dies, in John’s gospel he doesn’t. The last supper is actually eaten before the beginning of passover.

(Psa 36:9) tells us that water is the fountain of life, through which God imparted His Divine life in us. (Baptism) “For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light; ” and in (Rev 21:6) “He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.”

Therefore, the divine blood,

  • imparted eternal life in us which is the life of God and, bcs the wages of sin is death as in Romans (6:23)
  • made a perfect atonement
  • offered a pure sacrifice for the lives of men that
  • cleansed and spilled the contaminated blood that brought sin and death. because He took adam’s flesh, Jesus became our brother and through His WOUND HE HEALED US
  • restored the human race to its original dignity. JUST THE WAY GOD CREATED US, in HIS IMAGE AND LIKENESS

The resurrection of Jesus Christ not only gave us access to heaven, but also made us share in His divine blood the only blood that could destroy the power of death and sin. As a result of this blood-union with Christ the New Adam, supernatural life has been restored (WHICH IS THE GRACE OF GOD, UNDESERVING ETERNAL LIFE IN JESUS CHRIST).

St. Paul said, “Because in him, it hath well pleased the Father that all fulness should dwell; and through him to reconcile all things unto himself, making peace through the blood of his cross, both as to the things that are on earth, and the things that are in heaven.” (Colossians 1:19-20).

We must regard as guilty all those who continue to relapse WEAKEN SINK into their sins. Since our sins made the Lord Christ suffer the torment of the cross, those who plunge themselves into disorders and crimes crucify the Son of God anew in their hearts (for he is in them) and hold him up to contempt SCORN.. And it can be seen that our crime in this case is greater in us than in the Jews. As for them, according to the witness of the Apostle, “None of the rulers of this age understood this; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. We, however, profess to know him. And when we deny him by our deeds, we in some way seem to lay violent hands on him. (391) I, 5, 11; cf. Heb 6:6; 1 Cor 2:8. Nor did demons crucify him; it is you who have crucified him and crucify him still, when you delight in your vices and sins. (392) St. Francis of Assisi, Admonitio 5, 3.
