BLOOD OF OUR REDEEMER

The Month of July

July 7, 2023

The month of July is dedicated to honouring and worshipping the Precious Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

About spreading the devotion of the Precious Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The influence of God-man’s blood is infinite, just as is the infinite love that compelled him to pour out his blood for us, first at his circumcision eight days after his birth, and then in greater abundance at his Passion in the Garden, at his scourging and crowning him with thorns, at his ascent to Calvary and at his crucifixion And finally, from that great wide wound in his side, which symbolises the divine blood flowing abundantly into all the sacred sacraments of the Church.

Such transcendent love tells us, without requests, that every person born again in the torrent of that blood reveres and thanks him with love.

The blood of the eternal new covenant is especially deserving of this worship when it is shed during the Mass Sacrifice. But this worship accomplishes its work in the Eucharist of the Blood itself, eternally united to the Eucharistic Body of Christ. So the believer can, in essential union with the celebrant priest, form his own conscience while partaking of the Holy Communion:

“I will take the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord…

The Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ preserves my soul for eternal life. Amen”.

Thus, whenever they approach this holy table worthily, they receive the fruits of redemption, resurrection, and eternal life that all people win by means of the precious Blood that Christ shed on the Calvary.

By eating His Flesh and drinking His Blood, and sharing in the divine power that gave strength to the martyrs, and by his power the faithful can stand against difficulties and arrows resulting from our daily toils even if it will lead to martyrdom for the sake of Christian virtues and the kingdom of God.

What remains for them will be an experience of that burning love which made Saint John Chrysostom exclaim: “Let us, then, return from that table like lions exhaling fire, and thus we become a frightening to the devil, and we keep watchful to our head which is Jesus Christ and to the love he has shown us… This blood, when it is deservedly taken.”

The Blood of Christ drives away demons and puts them at a distance from us, and even calls upon angels and the Lord of angels for us… This blood spilled in abundance has washed the whole world clean… This is the price for  the world: through it Christ bought His Church… This idea will force us to enter into the sufferings of Christ.

How much, in fact, will we remain attached to the things of the present? How long will we be asleep? How long will it pass without us thinking about our salvation?

Let us remember what privileges God has bestowed upon us, let us give thanks to him, let us glorify him, not only by faith but also by our own works.

knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. (1 Peter 1:18-19).  “You were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies…,  by making your bodies a place for His presence.(1 Corinthians 6:19-20) Then their upright life becomes a shining example of what it should be.

The Church of Christ will more effectively fulfil her mission to men. God wants all people to be saved, because He wants them all to be redeemed through the blood of His only begotten Son and He calls them all to be members of the one spiritual body whose head is Christ. If only people were more responsive to these remembrances of His grace, the bond of brotherly love would be strengthened between individuals, peoples and nations.

Based on the message of Pope Saint John XXIII, On June 30, 1960.
